We’re looking for a personal assistant to join our family team. We anticipate a variety of hands-on, administrative, and research tasks, so versatility is important. The purpose of this role is to manage the operations of their lives to give them the time they need to have a mission-oriented impact.

About the family: The mother works mostly from home, doing strategy & design consulting for a variety of clients, often supporting mental health & wellness. The father works in a (COVID-conscious) office at a nonprofit that does AI safety research. They have a 15-month-old daughter who loves to read books, explore nature, and dance, and are planning to grow our family in the near future.

They also live in a co-living community, a type of non-traditional living situation (or perhaps very traditional, by Paleolithic standards).

Responsibilities for this role include:

Ensure a clean, organized, well-functioning family household. Implement improvements to the space with only relatively high-level direction. Learn and anticipate our needs and preferences.

Plan and manage more complex projects, such as renovations, moves, or events.

Source, hire, manage, and if necessary fire junior temporary contractors or staff, such as handyman contractors.

Help with more complex life strategy projects such as meal/diet planning, or evaluating options for a new car purchase, guided by our goals and your research

Travel planning

Assist with moderately complex paperwork tasks (financial, legal, and so forth)

Proficiency with modern productivity software; you should be extremely comfortable collaborating in Google Docs, picking up a new project management app, or navigating the intricacies of calendaring software.

Running errands, paying bills, and other day-to-day administrative and logistical work

(Optional) Supplement our full-time nanny by providing limited childcare support when needed. We’d be looking for someone skilled at relating to children with love, respect, and consent.

This is a full-time role in Berkeley, CA. We expect a few hours per day will need to be done out of our home, and the remainder can be remote. After-hours & weekend availability is expected, but demands will be modest and negotiable. Infrequently, travel with the family may be required.

They live in the Elmwood neighborhood of Berkeley, and the house is a close walk to shops and parks.
